My final song of the latest ‘What the Kids are Listening To’ segment comes from Big Sean, whose ‘Bounce Back’ sits at #11 on Billboard’s Hot 100.

My 14-year-old daughter Sophia has been singing the praises of Big Sean recently, even asking to attend a general admission concert of his on a school night in Miami (um, that was a no). I’m a little nervous to hit play on this one, especially after wondering just yesterday what effect some of these songs might have on teenagers.

Song of the Day #3,197: ‘Paris’ – The Chainsmokers

Yesterday I bemoaned the sameness of every Chainsmokers song I’ve heard and called on the EDM duo to try something different. Well, one day later, here’s their chance.

The Chainsmokers’ tune ‘Paris’ sits at #9 on this week’s charts, giving them their fifth top ten hit in the past year. These guys are really on a roll.

Song of the Day #3,196: ‘Something Just Like This’ – The Chainsmokers & Coldplay

Rihanna sits at the #7 spot on this week’s charts with ‘Love On the Brain,’ a song I’ve already covered on the blog. Rihanna recently passed Elvis to become the top-selling solo artist of all-time, trailing only The Beatles for the overall title.

At #8 is The Chainsmokers, who have been all over these charts in recent months. ‘Something Just Like This’ is a collaboration with Coldplay, and fittingly, sounds like a Coldplay song crossed with everything The Chainsmokers have ever done.

Song of the Day #3,195: ‘Tunnel Vision’ – Kodak Black

Pompano Beach’s own Kodak Black shows up ay Billboard’s #6 this week with ‘Tunnel Vision.’

Every time I do these weeks on chart-toppers I feel older and whiter. I really want to like modern rap music, but the songs getting all the radio play just aren’t very good. I’m sure I could find plenty of sophisticated, compelling rap songs if I dug a little deeper, but the Billboard Hot 100 is clearly not the place.
