In addition to their fine vocal performances, the lads of Superfruit impress me with their embrace of absurdity.
It’s one thing to perform the full Broadway version of Wicked‘s ‘Defying Gravity’ and quite another to do so in a blonde wig (for Scott) and green face paint (for Mitch). That’s commitment.
The two male vocal leads from Pentatonix, Mitch Grassi and Scott Hoying, produce a YouTube side project called Superfruit in which they crack wise on camera and deliver some pretty amazing songs.
A couple of weeks ago I linked to their performance of the Frozen soundtrack, with fellow Pentatonix member Kirstie Maldonado in support.
Postmodern Jukebox is swell, but my favorite internet sensation cover band remains Pentatonix, the a capella quintet that won The Sing-Off two seasons ago.
Their insane voice talent and gift for song arrangement make every one of their clips a treat from start to finish.

This might be my favorite clip of theirs yet, because I love that New Orleans sound, the singer (Miche Braden) has a wonderful voice and it’s so completely unexpected.
I dedicated a week to Postmodern Jukebox back in November, shortly after I discovered them for the first time.
The band is the brainchild of Scott Bradlee, who plays the piano on all of their tracks. They re-imagine modern hits in various classic style, from doo-wop and ragtime to blues and jazz.
