My desert island countdown continues (see Monday’s post for the full explanation).
Have already counted down my top five desert island picks for musical artists, TV series and movie directors, this week I’ll name some honorable mentions.
These picks are presented in no particular order.
Desert Island Musical Artists – Honorable Mention – Fiona Apple
Apple has released only four albums, though I would also be able to take along the bootleg version of Extraordinary Machine plus a nice assortment of soundtrack and live tracks.
The relative thinness of her output kept Apple out of the running for the top five, but I can’t see excluding her from the honorable mentions. I enjoy the complexity and creativity of her work too much to ignore it now.
Desert Island TV Series – Honorable Mention – The Sopranos
All three of my lists have leaned toward artists and works that I already know and love. I don’t want to take too many chances. But I feel pretty safe bringing along David Chase’s modern-day mob saga.
I watched the first two seasons when they first aired but failed to keep up with the series once I dropped HBO. This desert island would give me the perfect opportunity to start over from the beginning and experience the show that truly changed television.
And I already know how it ends, so I won’t be pissed off by the cut to black.
Desert Island Movie Directors – Honorable Mention – Martin Scorsese
Scorsese has directed 23 films, every one of which is worth watching and re-watching. Goodfellas alone could keep me entertained for years.
And my island would not allow 3D movies, so I could watch Hugo without getting motion sickness.
And you’ll be
In a world of
Pure imagination
Take a look
And you’ll see
Into your imagination
We’ll begin with a spin
Traveling in a world of my creation
What we’ll see will defy explanation
If you want to view paradise
Simply look around and view it
Anything you want to, do it
Want to change the world?
There’s nothing to it
There is no life I know
To compare with pure imagination
Living there, you’ll be free
If you truly wish to be
If you want to view paradise
Simply look around and view it
Anything you want to, do it
Want to change the world?
There’s nothing to it
Good picks. I too missed the boat on the Sopranos and wouldn’t mind using my extended stay on the island to see what I was missing. And I’m sure if Doug and Peg were on the island with us, they would be happy to watch the series for the 3rd (5th? 10th?) time.😄
Probably closer to the 10th time 🙂 And you’re right, we wouldn’t mind at all watching it again along with some fine Scorsese!
