Song of the Day #1,668: ‘Mississippi (Alternate Take)’ – Bob Dylan

‘Mississippi’ is one of Bob Dylan’s greatest achievements, and thanks to the wonder of his Bootleg Series, fans now have no fewer than four versions from which to choose (not counting Sheryl Crow’s cover).

Song of the Day #1,667: ‘Glam’ – Christina Aguilera

christina_aguilera_bionicSome cruel twist of fate has offered up a second track from Christina Aguilera’s cringe-worthy Bionic album less than two weeks after the first.

Perhaps this is the Random iTunes Fairy giving me the opportunity to reveal that I did not pay money for this album. I’m not sure how exactly it came into my possession, but let me assure you that Ms. Aguilera received no financial compensation from me.

Song of the Day #1,661: ‘The Old Songs’ – Joe Jackson

joe_jackson_laughter_lust1991’s Laughter & Lust was the last “traditional” album Joe Jackson released, and it was my first exposure to him (apart from knowing ‘Steppin’ Out’ and ‘Breaking Us in Two’ from the radio).

I remember buying the album because the cover and general vibe reminded me of Elvis Costello’s Spike, and having recently discovered Mr. Costello, I thought maybe I’d luck into another great discovery.

Song of the Day #1,660: ‘I Wish I Were In Love Again’ – Joni Mitchell

joni_mitchell_both_sides_nowIt’s funny that, for a guy who isn’t a fan of Joni Mitchell, I own four of her albums.

I bought Court and Spark and Blue somewhere along the way in my quest to own all of the albums a person should own. I never listen to them, but I gave them a shot.

I also own Hits (courtesy of my sister, a Mitchell fan) and Both Sides Now, a 2000 covers album which might have spontaneously generated on my CD shelf, because I have no recollection of how it got there.
