Song of the Day #2,502: ‘Candy Everybody Wants’ – 10,000 Maniacs

our_time_in_edenIt’s been far too long since I’ve revisited 10,000 Maniacs’ 1992 album Our Time in Eden.

Of course, I can say that about hundreds of albums in my music collection. Which is one of the reasons I like these Random iTunes Weekends so much — at their best, they reintroduce me to something I haven’t listened to in years, rekindle memories and allow for a new appreciation of something long forgotten.

Song of the Day #2,501: ‘Strawberry Swing’ – Coldplay

viva_la_vida_coldplayIn the midst of my Oscar snub countdown, stunned by the outrage of a ‘Stayin’ Alive’ shut-out, I neglected to note the milestone of my 2,500th post.

Song of the Day #2,494: ‘Blowin’ in the Wind’ – Bob Dylan

the_freewheelin_bob_dylanI posted “Bob Dylan Weekends” for so long on the blog that I was positive I’d already featured ‘Blowin’ in the Wind’ when it popped up as the next random iTunes cut.

But apart from an early version from The Witmark Demos and a cover from my popular “attractive women playing Bob Dylan songs on YouTube” series, this classic has gone up-posted.

Song of the Day #2,488: ‘The Right Thing To Do’ – Carly Simon

no_secretsI could wax poetic about the greatness of Carly Simon’s No Secrets, one of the best albums of my birth year, 1972.

But I just had the great idea to do a top five or top ten of the best albums from that year (that I know) followed by a list of albums from that year that I don’t know but should. I can sing Simon’s praises then.
