Song of the Day #1,854: ‘Baby I’ – Ariana Grande

ariana_grandeLately I’ve read a lot of praise of Ariana Grande’s new music, including frequent comparisons to her idol Mariah Carey. I get the sense that Grande, whom I know from her acting work on the Nickelodeon show Victorious, is on the verge of musical stardom.

I’m happy for her. She has great comic timing and delivery on the show, and has made enough of an impression to earn her own spin-off show, Sam & Cat, pairing her with iCarly alum Jennette McCurdy.

I have 7- and 11-year-old daughters, in case you’re wondering why I know any of this.

In his words, “Using a mathematical relationship between the circumference of a circular surface and pitch, I wrote code that draws a circle for each note of the song.”

Song of the Day #1,850: ‘Nice’ – Thisway

thiswayI’ve been writing this blog long enough now (more than 5 years without missing a day!) that sometimes previous posts are completely new to me.

When Thisway popped up as today’s Random Weekend selection, I started writing about how I have no recollection of how I discovered this band and their one album in the late 90s. But the sentiment felt vaguely familiar, so I search the Meet Me In Montauk archive and, sure enough, I’d written just that already.
