The Chainsmokers’ tune ‘Paris’ sits at #9 on this week’s charts, giving them their fifth top ten hit in the past year. These guys are really on a roll.
Rihanna sits at the #7 spot on this week’s charts with ‘Love On the Brain,’ a song I’ve already covered on the blog. Rihanna recently passed Elvis to become the top-selling solo artist of all-time, trailing only The Beatles for the overall title.
At #8 is The Chainsmokers, who have been all over these charts in recent months. ‘Something Just Like This’ is a collaboration with Coldplay, and fittingly, sounds like a Coldplay song crossed with everything The Chainsmokers have ever done.
It’s time again for my quarterly look at “What the Kids are Listening To!” I will highlight the songs sitting at the top of Billboard’s Hot 100 and decide whether or not I have faith in the future of humanity — or at least humanity’s taste in popular music.
Sitting at #1 this week, as it has for the past three, is ‘Closer,’ by The Chainsmokers featuring Halsey. This is the first #1 song for both acts.
The Chainsmokers are responsible for the annoying ‘#Selfie’ but also the somewhat enjoyable ‘Roses.’ With ‘Don’t Let Me Down’ they have not only their most successful track but the first I truly like.
My best-ever Billboard countdown is approaching its end, and the pressure is on these next two acts to not screw up the streak of enjoyable music. In fact, I’m already familiar with the final song of the week so it really all comes down to today.
At #9 is ‘Roses’ by The Chainsmokers featuring Rozes. We’re in a little danger here because The Chainsmokers are the DJ duo responsible for the 2014 track ‘#Selfie,’ which was amusing but also rather horrible.
