So jumping to #6, we have our second appearance by Justin Bieber, who makes quite a living being featured on other people’s songs. This time it’s DJ Snake, known (to me, at least) for ‘Lean On‘ and ‘Turn Down for What.’
Crawling up Billboard’s Hot 100, reaching its peak position (so far) at #4, is Major Lazer’s ‘Lean On.’ My family was introduced to this track several months ago by the soft-spoken 13-year-old son of a friend.
Major Lazer (a trio currently made up of popular DJ Diplo along with lesser-known DJs Jillionaire and Walshy Fire) enlisted Danish singer MØ to handle lead vocals on this song. She also contributed Gwen Stefani-esque dance moves to the colorful video below.
As I suspected, Ariana Grande’s ‘Problem’ is sitting high on the charts, at #2. In the third and fourth spots are two other songs I’ve already featured on the blog, John Legend’s ‘All Of Me’ and Pharell’s juggernaut ‘Happy.’
The next new entry is an oddity by DJ Snake & Lil Jon called ‘Turn Down For What.’ The track contains twelve words repeated ad nauseum over an assaulting EDM beat — just like the songs my parents grew up with.
