Song of the Day #2,271: ‘Why Try To Change Me Now?’ – Fiona Apple

fiona1I originally planned to post a new Fiona Apple song today called ‘Container,’ which plays over the opening credits of Showtime’s The Affair. But when I found the clip on YouTube, it didn’t have any sound.

That happens occasionally, when a publishing company doesn’t want a track on the web… rather than pull the clip down they just strip it of its audio, so you’re left with a silent movie — and a ghost of the song that once played over it.

Song of the Day #2,270: ‘Flawless (Remix)’ – Beyoncé feat. Nicki Minaj

beyonce_minajBeyoncé’s surprise self-titled album came out nearly a year ago, but it’s the gift that keeps on giving.

This week, Queen Bey released a video of her Paris performance of album track ‘Flawless’ with rapper Nicki Minaj.

The remix itself was released in August, but given that every song on the album has an accompanying video, it’s only fitting that this one should, too.

Song of the Day #2,269: ‘Blood’ – Archis

dia_frampton_archisAfter taking a few seasons off, my family has started watching The Voice again this year.

We watched the first two seasons with the original coaching lineup, but missed the Shakira/Usher years as well as the reunion with Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green.

This year, Gwen Stefani and Pharrell round out (or square off) the cast, with veterans — and future buddy film stars — Blake Shelton and Adam Levine returning as usual.

Song of the Day #2,268: ‘Walk On’ – Lucinda Williams

lucinda_spirit_meets_boneIt took 20 years for Lucinda Williams to release her first four albums. Her most recent four have come at a much faster clip, averaging one every other year.

And while there is no contest in terms of quality — the first batch takes it by a mile — I’m glad to hear new material by one of America’s greatest singer-songwriters with some frequency.

Song of the Day #2,267: ‘Stuck On You’ – Lionel Richie

lionel_richieI’ve had this song stuck in my head for the better part of two days now, and I have no idea why. Maybe it’s featured in a commercial or something?

When I realized I didn’t have a SOTD scheduled this morning, I figured I’d give old Lionel Richie his due for planting ‘Stuck On You’ in my brain.

So here is Richie’s official Meet Me In Montauk debut, if you don’t count a cover of ‘Endless Love’ by the cast of Glee.
