The blog’s first Artist Deep Dive (or at least the first one I labelled that way) belonged to Joni Mitchell, one of the most influential and admired singer-songwriters of her (or any) generation.
I had always been resistant to Mitchell for the silly reason that I wasn’t wild about her voice (this from a huge Bob Dylan fan). So I decided I owed it to her and myself to explore her catalog and understand all the hype.
It was quite a journey, one that opened my eyes to the genius of her early work but also exposed me to some truly baffling detours she took in later years. I didn’t love everything I heard, but I definitely came away able to call myself a fan.
