Song of the Day #1,568: ‘Let it Ride’ – Ryan Adams & The Cardinals

I have a select group of artists whom I feel guilty for not listening to more. People who make consistently good music that’s right up my alley yet somehow rarely make it into my regular rotation.

Ryan Adams is a perfect example.

He has released at least two albums (Gold and Heartbreaker) that I love start to finish — albums filled with powerful, beautiful songs. His collection of unreleased singles, Demolition, is similarly strong.

Song of the Day #1,562: ‘Gideon’ – My Morning Jacket

I discovered My Morning Jacket after the release of 2008’s Evil Urges, a masterful collection of southern-fried funk and psychedelia that simply blew me away.

A lot of fans were apparently turned off by Evil Urges, expecting something closer to what the band delivered on 2005’s Z, their critical and commercial breakthrough.

Song of the Day #1,561: ‘Hard Time Killing Floor Blues’ – Chris Thomas King

Today’s randomly selected Song of the Day comes from what has to be the unlikeliest hit soundtrack album in history.

I’m surprised to see that I’ve never featured a Green Day song through 1,555 Songs of the Day.

Song of the Day #1,554: ‘For All My Niggaz & Bitches’ – Snoop Dogg

My apologies to all the “niggaz and bitches” in my readership who might be offended by today’s Song of the Day. The Random iTunes Fairy can be politically incorrect.

This song is a nice example of why I don’t listen to a lot of rap. While I really enjoy the 90s G-funk sound that Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre made popular, I tire quickly of songs about drug use, gangs and women as sex objects.
