Song of the Day #3,560: ‘Alabama Pines’ – Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit

So far, my greatest streaming success story has to be Jason Isbell. I first discovered the Alabama-born Americana artist through Village Voice’s Pazz & Jop poll, when his ‘If We Were Vampires’ showed up at #20 and was easily the best song on the list.

I downloaded his most recent album, The Nashville Sound, and was blown away. I got that buzz you feel when you know you’ve stumbled onto something special. That sent me back to Amazon to download the other five albums he’s released either solo or with his backing band the 400 Unit.

Song of the Day #3,559: ‘Hotter Than Hell’ – Dua Lipa

After years of resisting, I finally took the plunge and joined the music streaming revolution. Specifically, I signed up for the Amazon Music Unlimited Family plan, which for a little more than $12 per month gives my whole clan access to pretty much every song ever recorded.

Song of the Day #3,558: ‘Whistle’ – BLACKPINK

Of all the genres I featured during my ’31 Numbered Songs’ series, the one most underserved by my blog to date has to be K-pop.

Song of the Day #3,557: ‘Thirty One’ – Lydian Collective

Today, March of 2018 comes to an end, and with it my ’31 Numbered Songs’ series. Thirty-one songs named after numbers, by 31 different artists, spanning multiple genres, decades and levels of popularity.

My final selection comes from British modern jazz ensemble Lydian Collective. ‘Thirty One’ is the lead-off single from their new album Adventure, which in a nice bit of timing was released just yesterday.

Song of the Day #3,556: ’30’ – VanSwan

As I near the end of my ’31 Numbered Songs’ series, here’s another artist with a decent amount of talent but almost no digital footprint.

VanSwan’s ’30’ has 17 views on YouTube, and apart from his Apple Music and SoundCloud playlists, I can’t find a trace of him online. I found a lot more references to VanSwann, a St. Louis-based marketing and consulting firm, although it seems to have shut up shop.
