Song of the Day #5,105: ‘Contact’ – Daft Punk

‘Contact’ is the final song on Daft Punk’s final album, 2013’s Random Access Memories. This electronic freakout features a NASA recording by astronaut Eugene Cernan, who saw an unidentified object outside the window of his capsule during the Apollo 17 mission in 1972.

Cernan is known as the “last man on the Moon,” as nobody since has set foot on its surface. I suppose it’s fitting that his is the last voice you hear on Daft Punk’s swan song.

Song of the Day #5,104: ‘Before the Light is Gone’ – Ron Sexsmith

Canadian singer-songwriter is nothing if not prolific. He has averaged a new album every year and a half over the course of his 27-year career.

Today’s random selection comes from his 13th studio release, 2015’s Carousel One. Perhaps no track better illustrates Sexsmith’s relentlessness as a songwriter than this one, which is about him not being able to leave the house because he’s too busy writing new songs.
