At #32 is a track by another young woman, 23-year-old Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Em Beihold. Beihold has had modest success with a few singles thanks mostly to TikTok, but ‘Numb Little Bug’ marked her first appearance on the Billboard charts. The song peaked at #18 on the Hot 100 the week of July 16.
‘Numb Little Bug’ is a jaunty piano pop song about balancing clinical anxiety with the numbness caused by the medication prescribed to treat it.
Beihold claims Sara Bareilles, Fiona Apple, Regina Spektor, and Lily Allen as influences, and the stamps of those artists are all over this track. As a fan of that whole lot myself, I’ll make a point to follow Beihold’s career.
