Our first new entry on the Billboard Hot 100 this week is ‘Sweetest Pie’ from Megan Thee Stallion and Dua Lipa. It hits the charts at #15. This collaboration is the first single from Megan’s upcoming studio album, her second.
Megan Thee Stallion is another example of the sexually explicit female rappers I mentioned yesterday in the Latto post. This crop of performers owes a lot to Nicki Minaj, now a grizzled veteran in the 15th year of her career.
As for Dua Lipa, this is her second track in the current top 15. She has had 18 songs on the Hot 100 and four in the top ten. What she hasn’t had, to date, is a #1 hit. Both ‘Levitating’ and ‘Don’t Start Now’ reached #2, but couldn’t make it to the top spot.
I doubt she’s complaining, though. With 72 weeks on the Hot 100, Lipa’s ‘Levitating’ has now spent more time on the chart than any other song by a female artist in history.
