Song of the Day #3,585: ‘Taffy’ – Lisa Loeb & Nine Stories

When today’s Random Weekend song popped up on iTunes, my first thought was that I would at long last get to hear something other than ‘Stay (I Missed You)’ from Lisa Loeb’s 1995 album Tails.

But a few bars into ‘Taffy’ I realized that I know this song pretty well. And a quick sample of some other Tails tracks revealed the same. So I guess I gave this album enough of a listen back in the day to stick deep in my subconscious 23 years later.

Loeb shouldn’t be considered a one-hit wonder, even if ‘Stay (I Missed You)’ was a mega-hit the level of which she never approached again. She released a second Gold album (Firecracker) after this one and has carved out a pretty nice career recording children’s music and books as well as appearing in TV shows and movies.

She turned 50 last month, which makes me feel super old even though she’s five years older than me. I’ve always had a bit of a crush on her. Here she is five years ago performing ‘Stay’ on that song’s 20th anniversary. Still killing it.

My friend’s got a bruise on his leg
A bruise on his leg
Every time you speak
My friend’s got a bruise on his leg
Where I press my knee
Every time you speak

Actually, bottom line
You tell the truth sometimes
Sometimes you tell the truth
Like you’re pulling taffy

My friend’s got a bruise on his arm
A bruise on his arm
Every time you speak
My friend’s got a bruise on his arm
Where i shove my elbow
Every time you speak

Actually, bottom line
You tell the truth sometimes
Sometimes you tell the truth
Like you’re pulling taffy

My friend’s got a bruise on his ribs
Where I poke my finger
Every time you speak
My friend’s got a bruise on his ribs
His rib cage is now numb
Every time you speak

Actually, bottom line
You tell the truth sometimes
Sometimes you tell the truth
Like you’re pulling taffy

I always liked “Stay” and this song is catchy as well. And I can see the attraction.😊
