Song of the Day #6,489: ‘Kiss’ – Prince and the Revolution

Austrian artist Falco owned the top spot of the Billboard Hot 100 the week of April 12, 1986, with ‘Rock Me Amadeus,’ one of only nine non-English songs to top the chart.

At #2 was Prince with his iconic hit ‘Kiss,’ which would reach #1 the following week and stay there for two weeks. ‘Kiss’ is the third of five chart-topping hits for Prince, all released between 1984 and 1991.

Song of the Day #5,952: ‘Kiss’ – Kelly Clarkson

When watching clips of Miranda Lambert promoting her new album, I wound up catching a great appearance on Kelly Clarkson's show. She and Clarkson shared vocals on a number of songs, the fellow Texans knocking each one out of the park.

Then Twitter's algorithm kicked in, and I started seeing a ton of clips from Clarkson's "Kellyoke" series, the part of the show where she performs a cover — the common wisdom being that it's invariably better than the original.

Song of the Day #5,108: ‘Rock and Roll All Nite’ – KISS

Our next Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee from the Class of 2014 is KISS, the New York City glam metal band that brought a whole new level of theatricality to hard rock.

From the mid-70s through the early 80s, dolled up in face paint and elaborate costumes, KISS put on elaborate stage shows and courted controversy by leaning into rumors of devil worship. In 1983, the band entered its “unmasked” era, finding new success absent to makeup and costumes.
