Continuing my countdown of every Pixar movie…

#7. Toy Story 4 (2019)
(no change from previous ranking)

One of the biggest shocks on this list (even to me) is the placement of Toy Story 4 above the first and second films in the series. It defies the conventional wisdom that this movie was unnecessary because the third movie tied things up so neatly.

I felt that way myself when this film was first announced. But after watching it (three times now), I strongly disagree. While Toy Story 3 offered perfect closure to the arc of the toys in Andy’s life, it left wide open the question of what was in store for Woody.

Song of the Day #3,243: ‘Tennessee Whiskey’ – Chris Stapleton

I last featured this song about a year and a half ago, when I posted a live Country Music Awards performance by Chris Stapleton and Justin Timberlake. That performance was my introduction to Chris Stapleton… and lot of other people’s, too.

That performance vaulted the country blue singer-songwriter into the national spotlight and helped push his debut album, Traveller, to Billboard’s #1 spot and eventual double-platinum status. Not bad for three minutes’ work.

Like the rest of the world, I was introduced to Chris Stapleton through his performance alongside Justin Timberlake on the Country Music Awards.

Stapleton has such a rich, powerful voice that it’s a mystery why he has toiled away as a writer of hits for other artists without earning much attention as a performer himself. But that all changed in November.

I’ve wanted to post something about the record since I picked it up a couple of weeks ago but I’m in the middle of a monthlong flashback series so I didn’t think I’d do it anytime soon.

Stapleton has been kicking around Nashville for years as a songwriter and performer but reached most people’s radars (including mine) following a riveting performance alongside Justin Timberlake at the recent Country Music Awards.

Song of the Day #2,667: ‘Tennessee Whiskey (Live)’ – Chris Stapleton & Justin Timberlake

stapleton_timberlakeI always mean to watch the Country Music Awards but usually I forget. It’s an entertaining show, with the winning duo of Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood as hosts and plenty of memorable performances.

And as artists such as Kacey Musgraves, Ashley Monroe and Brandy Clark join Miranda Lambert and Paisley among my favorites, the number of acts worth watching goes up.
