Hailee Steinfeld has quietly put together one of the most interesting careers among her peers in young Hollywood. The 25-year-old actress and singer has established herself in movies, TV, and on the music charts, a rare feat for performers of any age.
Steinfeld received an Academy Award nomination at age 14 for her stunning debut in the Coen Brothers’ True Grit. She followed that success with impressive turns in more than a dozen films, including The Edge of Seventeen, Bumblebee and the Pitch Perfect movies. On the small screen, she is a Peabody winner for her work as the titular character in Apple TV+’s Dickinson and recently starred in the Marvel series Hawkeye.
At the #2 spot on this week’s Billboard Hot 100 is ‘Leave the Door Open,’ a smooth R&B jam by Silk Sonic.
If you’re like me, this is the first you’ve heard of Silk Sonic, which you’ll quickly realize is a super-duo formed by Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak. Paak opened for Mars a few years ago and the two began a collaboration that culminated in the surprise drop of this song and a promise of a future album.
I feel somewhat cool for recognizing the name Anderson .Paak, one half of NxWorries, and for that I thank my musical savant nephew, who recently introduced me to .Paak’s solo work. This duo (pronounced “No Worries”) is a collaboration between .Paak and producer Knxwledge. I guess the ‘O’ key was broken on their keyboard.
I haven’t had much time to delve into .Paak’s music yet but I’ve really liked what I’ve heard so far. A rich, modern blend of hip-hop and soul.
