Song of the Day #2,322: ‘Chandelier’ – Jean Kelley

jean_kelleyI’m writing these posts a few days before the next episodes of The Voice, meaning two more people will have been sent home before the week is through.

For that reason, I’m not aiming to feature my favorite remaining contestants, or turn this theme week into a prediction of the final four. I will close out the week with performances by two of the strongest contenders, but today and tomorrow I’m featuring singers who have already packed their bags.

Song of the Day #2,321: ‘Riptide’ – Team Gwen

voice_team_gwenMy family took a few years off from watching The Voice but picked it back up this season. I like singing competitions for two reasons: the judges and the chance to hear new songs or interesting takes on songs I already like.

One reason I never watched American Idol (is it still on? I’m not sure) is my complete lack of interest in Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul. The parade of weirdos they brought into to replace the departing judges never piqued my interest either.

Song of the Day #2,320: ‘Tentative Decisions’ – Talking Heads

talking_heads_77I’m often shocked to realize how few posts I’ve dedicated to certain artists, even 2,300 songs into the Song of the Day series.

Take today’s Random iTunes Selection, Talking Heads, a band I consider among my favorites. This is just the third appearance by the group in more than five years.

They started off strong, landing the third-ever Song of the Day post. But it was slim pickings thereafter, with only two appearances in the next 2,316.
