Song of the Day #2,344: ‘The Hanging Tree’ – Jennifer Lawrence

jennifer_lawrence_hanging_treeIn Billboard’s 15th slot is ‘The Hanging Tree,’ performed by none other than actress Jennifer Lawrence, who can seemingly do no wrong.

Lawrence had to be coaxed into singing the song for a scene in the film, having very little confidence in her voice. I’m sure she never dreamed of landing this high on the Billboard charts.

Song of the Day #2,342: ‘The Heart Wants What It Wants’ – Selena Gomez

selena_gomezIn Billboard’s 11th spot is Tove Lo with ‘Habits (Stay High),’ a good song that has had a nice run on this chart.

At #12 is Selena Gomez with ‘The Heart Wants What It Wants,’ a song I’m guessing was not inspired by Woody Allen’s use of that phrase.

I thought Gomez was still in rehab or recovery or something, so I’m surprised to see her with new music on the charts.

Song of the Day #2,341: ‘Love is All There Is’ – Sheryl Crow

sheryl_crow_detoursI’ve listened to Sheryl Crow’s 2008 album once, and that was enough for me to decide I never needed to hear it again.

That’s probably unfair to Ms. Crow, who is a talented songwriter and performer, but I just don’t have the time or desire to dig too deeply into new music that doesn’t grab me right away.

Song of the Day #2,340: ‘Call Letter Blues’ – Bob Dylan

dylan_bootlegThis Bob Dylan blues track from the second Bootleg Series album is essentially the classic Blood On the Track song ‘Meet Me in the Morning’ with different lyrics.

When Googling facts about the song, I stumbled upon a website called ‘…Just Another Tune’ that really blew my mind in terms of its depth and insight.
