Song of the Day #2,437: ‘Truffle Butter’ – Nicki Minaj feat. Drake & Lil Wayne

nicki_minajWrapping up a rather depressing two weeks of Billboard tracks — how many boring, offensive or boring and offensive songs can be popular at once? — we land at #14 and a new track from Nicki Minaj.

In the 13th spot was Meghan Trainor with ‘Lips Are Movin’,’ which sounds like the freaking Beatles compared to most of this dreck.

I have high hopes for Minaj, though, even if I’m unimpressed with Drake and Lil Wayne, her collaborators on this track. Minaj is always interesting, if nothing else.

Song of the Day #2,436: ‘Trap Queen’ – Fetty Wap

fetty_wap_trap_queenIn Billboard’s 12th spot is ‘Trap Queen’ by Fetty Wap. I love when I come across these mysterious entries, because until I fire up YouTube and hear them they have the potential to be anything in the world.

When I see Pitbull, Usher or Elle Goulding in the top ten, I know what I’m going to get. But Fetty Wap? That could be an L.A. rapper, a Scandinavian emo band, a New York punk revival outfit… anything.

So now I’ll go kill the suspense.

Song of the Day #2,435: ‘I Don’t Mind’ – Usher feat. Juicy J

usher_I_dont_mindRounding out Billboard’s top ten is Taylor Swift (again) with ‘Blank Space,’ the hit that keeps on giving.

In the 11th spot is Usher (and Juicy J) with ‘I Don’t Mind.’

This is a slow jam ballad performed with great conviction from the perspective of a man dating a stripper. If it’s a joke, it’s played completely straight.
