Continuing the Filmspotting discoveries theme, here’s a track from Nikki Lane’s 2014 album All Or Nothin’.
Lane is a country rocker who was born in South Carolina and lived in both Los Angeles and New York before settling in Nashville. Her sound and her lyrics reflect that blend of traditional country and more urban influences.
Last June, I mentioned the Filmspotting podcast, my running accompaniment for a year now, in a series of posts on my desert island music, TV and films.
In addition to thought-provoking film reviews and top five lists, Filmspotting includes musical interludes that tie into each week’s theme. They lean toward indie artists who can use the exposure and over the past year I’ve heard a lot of good music along with a lot of good film discussion.
After a couple of weeks dominated by ugly rap songs, it’s refreshing to hear a cut from Outkast’s excelent 2003 double album Speakerboxxx/The Love Below.
This track is from Andre 3000’s half of the record (The Love Below) and, like most of that song cycle, concerns the many splendors of the fairer sex.
It took 324 Random Weekend posts before the iTunes Fairy finally served up a Wiggles song. I expected this to happen long ago.
And of course we’re subjected to a song by Captain Feathersword, the most annoying member of the Wiggles entourage, and the one whose name sounds the most like a sexual insult.
