One of the ongoing projects I’m proudest of is the Decades series, in which I count down my favorite albums from a given year and then explore 10 (or more) albums from the year with which I’m unfamiliar.
I started with my birth year, 1972, then jumped ahead through the decades to 1982, 1992, and 2002. At the time (11 years ago) I didn’t know how far I’d take it. Now, I think it’s become one of the defining features of Meet Me in Montauk.
So far, I’ve covered the first six years of each of those decades, and the first seven years of the 70s. That’s 29 years of an eventual 40. More than 550 albums and counting.
You can see all of that writing on the new Decades page, which lays things out chronologically and will be updated as new years are added. I’ve also decided to expand the covered decades to the 60s and 2010s (after I’ve finished the current lineup).
Now, all that might take me another decade, but it’s exactly the sort of project I love.
