Song of the Day #6,526: ‘I Feel So Free’ – Madonna

After a 14-album Madonna Deep Dive, I’m contractually bound to eagerly anticipate whatever the Queen of Pop is serving up next.

That turns out to be a sequel to 2005’s Confessions on a Dance Floor, the EDM album that earned her rave reviews and was heralded as a return to form. I placed it at #4 on my own ranked list of Madonna’s albums.

Confessions II, as it’s been dubbed, is due on July 3.

I’m not an electric/dance pop guy generally, but I really loved the first Confessions and I hope Madonna will deliver the goods again with this one.

This is the icon’s first album since 2019’s disappointing Madame X. In fact, the three albums preceding that one were disappointing as well, so it’s been 20 years since she has dropped a true banger.

Will going back to the Confessions well be the secret to renewed relevance for Madonna at the ripe old pop star age of 67?

I’m betting yes.

[Intro]
Thanks for coming
Sometimes I like to just hide in the shadows
Create a new persona
A different identity
I can be whoever I wanna be
Create a new persona
Honestly, I wish I could be like other people
And just not care
But out here
On the dance floor
I feel so free
Oh, by the way, it all started like this
So, how’s your evening so far?
Don’t be a vibe kill

[Refrain]
(Uh-uh-uh-uh)
Come on, meet me on the dancefloor
Come here, baby, I can give you much more tonight
Oh, baby, let’s do it right (Ah)

[Verse 1]
It’s really hard for me to trust people
Can you blame me?
I never know what people like me
That’s why I like to go dancing
Safety in numbers
That’s why I like to go dancing
Safety in numbers
Safety in numbers

[Refrain]
Come on, meet me on the dancefloor
Come here, baby, I can give you much more tonight
Oh, baby, let’s do it right (Ah)

[Chorus]
I feel so free
I feel so free
I feel so free

[Verse 2]
It’s dangerous with just one person
And that’s not a nice feeling
But out here, on the dance floor
I feel so free, I can’t explain
On the dance floor
I feel so free

[Pre-Chorus]
Been so lonely, I can’t take anymore
Give me champagne so I can get on the floor tonight
Oh, baby, let’s do it right (Let’s)

[Chorus]
I feel so free
I feel so free
I feel so free
I feel so free (Ah)

[Refrain]
Come on, meet me on the dancefloor
Come here, baby, I can give you much more tonight
Oh, baby, let’s do it right (Ah)

[Interlude]
So, how’s your evening so far?

[Chorus]
I feel so free
I feel so free
I feel so free
I feel so free (Ah, ah)

[Refrain]
Come on, meet me on the dancefloor
Come here, baby, I can give you much more tonight
Oh, baby, let’s do it right (Do it)

I am neither a big enough Madonna fan nor a big enough EDM fan to get too excited about this song or her upcoming album if it’s more of the same.
