‘Butter,’ the band’s second English-language single, is rewriting the record books. It set world records for biggest YouTube music video debut and most streams for a music video in its first 24 hours (in both cases, the previous record holder was their previous English-language track, ‘Dynamite’).
The song debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100, giving BTS its fourth #1 hit in the last year. Only six other acts have had their first four #1s land within a 12-month period: The Beatles, The Supremes, Justin Timberlake, The Jackson 5, Mariah Carey, and Paula Abdul.
I don’t know why this particular K-pop band has found such astronomical success. Is it the songwriting? The performances? Good marketing? Good timing?
Maybe I’ll have to do the K-pop deep dive I joked about a few April Fools Days’ ago and get to the bottom of it.

Happy birthday, Dad 🥰🥰 and what a good present! Yay!!! I love BTS and this song. Going to their concert had an off the chart fan energy that I’ve truly never seen before. And how can you not smile watching this music video and their killer dance moves. I would for sure approve of the deep dive that you’ve joked about, but I’ll take this song for now. 🙂
