Song of the Day #4,503: ‘The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin’ Groovy) [Live in Central Park]’ – Simon & Garfunkel

I write these posts about a week or so in advance, and when preparing this one, it hit me that I’m about to get to the stretch of posts spanning Election Day and its aftermath. Gulp.

Four years ago, I spent the lead-up to the election posting songs from the 30 Days, 30 Songs project, in which artists took musical shots at Donald Trump in the name of raising money and turning out the vote.

It didn’t work, obviously.

I thought Hillary had that election in the bag, so I viewed those posts as a way to take some parting shots at the truly despicable Trump before what I expected to be his embarrassing defeat. Oh, how naive I was! How naive we all were! And what a sickening feeling to wake up that Wednesday morning in Donald Trump’s America.

Four years later, I feel good about Joe Biden’s chances, but I’m not stupid or crazy enough to feel confident about it. And I’m not going to do anything different on the blog this week. Just more songs from the albums of 2003.

Today’s Random Weekend selection is a nice way to kick off one of the most important weeks in modern American history. Let’s all relax and hope we can say “life I love you, all is groovy” a few days from now.

Slow down, you move too fast
You got to make the moment last
Just kickin’ down the cobblestones
Lookin’ for fun and
Feelin’ groovy
Hello lampost
Whatcha knowin?
I’ve come to watch your flowers growin’
Ain’tcha got no rhymes for me?
Doo Bee Doo Doo,
Feelin’ groovy

Got no deeds to do
No promises to keep
I’m dappled and drowsy and ready to sleep
Let the morningtime drop all its petals on me…
Life, I love you,
All is groovy
