Song of the Day #2,546: ‘Stitches’ – Shawn Mendes

shawn_mendes_stitchesI’m guessing Shawn Mendes appeals to my 13 year-old daughter in part because they’re practically in the same grade.

The Canadian lad is 16 and got his start posting song covers to Vine. Yes, Vine, which has a 6-second time limit. Talk about appealing to short attention spans!

‘Stitches’ has been popping up more and more on Sirius (the Radio Disney channel, specifically) and every time I find myself singing along.

Will Mendes be the next Justin Bieber (the pre-thug Bieber, that is)? Perhaps. Or maybe he’ll end up as something more interesting than that.

Let’s check back when he’s legal.

Also… happy birthday to my father, who has a few years on Shawn Mendes but could easily be a Vine sensation himself.

[Verse 1:]
I thought that I’ve been hurt before
But no one’s ever left me quite this sore
Your words cut deeper than a knife
Now I need someone to breathe me back to life

[Pre-Chorus:]
Got a feeing that I’m going under
But I know that I’ll make it out alive
If I quit calling you my lover
Move on

[Chorus:]
You watch me bleed until I can’t breathe, shaking
Falling onto my knees
And now that I’m without your kisses
I’ll be needing stitches

Tripping over myself, aching
Begging you to come help
And now that I’m without your kisses
I’ll be needing stitches

[Verse 2:]
Just like a moth drawn to a flame
Oh, you lured me in I couldn’t sense the pain
Your bitter heart, cold to the touch
Now I’m gonna reap what I sow
I’m left seeing red on my own

[Pre-Chorus] + [Chorus]

[Bridge (x3):]
Needle and the thread
Gotta get you out of my head
Needle and the thread
Gonna wind up dead

Needle and the thread
Gotta get you out of my head, get you out of my head

[Chorus]

Now that I’m without your kisses
I’ll be needing stitches (x2)

I’ve never heard of this kid or this song. I’m curious if my kids have as it has been years since they’ve listened to a Radio Disney.

On first listen, the song’s not doing anything for me. And I suspect the birthday boy wouldn’t listen to this for more than the time of a vine.😄

I think you may be right about the birthday boy 🙂 He is cute though
