Song of the Day #2,547: ‘Chains’ – Nick Jonas

nick_jonas_chainsBased on the first three selections this week, you might guess that my 13-year-old’s hormones are playing as big a role in her musical taste as her ears.

But Sophia really seems to enjoy these songs on their merits and not because of the cute boys singing them. In fact, it’s surprising how little she has gotten into the heartthrob thing. Meanwhile, my 9-year-old says wholly inappropriate things about the Chrises, Pratt and Hemsworth.

But just like many men read Playboy for the articles, Sophia likes Nick Jonas’ ‘Chains’ not for Nick Jonas but for the sleek production and catchy chorus. I believe her, too.

[Verse 1]
With her wine-stained lips, yeah she’s nothing but trouble
Cold to the touch but she’s warm as a devil
I gave her my heart but she wanted my soul
She tasted her break and I can’t get more

[Chorus]
You got me in chains, you got me in chains for your love
But, I wouldn’t change, no I wouldn’t change this love
You got me chains, you got me in chains for your love
But, I wouldn’t change, no I wouldn’t change this love

[Bridge]
Tryna break the chains but the chains only break me
(Hey-ey-ey-ey, hey-ey-ey-ey, hey-ey-ey-ey, hey-ey-ey-ey)
Tryna break the chains but the chains only break me

[Verse 2]
Alone in the night ‘til she knocks on my door
Oh no, wasted again but I can’t say no (no)
Baby tell me why, why you do, do me wrong
Baby tell me why, why you do, do me wrong
Gave you my heart but you took my soul

[Chorus] + [Bridge]

[Refrain]
Baby tell me why, why you do, do me wrong
Baby tell me why, why you do, do me wrong
Gave you my heart but you took my soul

[Chorus]

[Outro]
Tryna break the chains but the chains only break me
