In Billboard’s fifth spot is Mark Ronson (and Bruno Mars) with ‘Uptown Funk,’ the smash hit that keeps on giving.
At #6 is one of my least favorite hitmakers, Jason Derulo. He’s come up a half dozen times on these Billboard posts and I couldn’t name (let alone hum) one of those songs. He’s the very definition of generic, bland R&B dance pop.
So imagine my surprise to find that ‘Want to Want Me’ is actually quite listenable. Covering Derulo’s usual subject matter of his sexual prowess with the ladies, this song is catchy and almost sweet. With less sexy lyrics, I could see this as a hit for Michael Jackson in the 80s.
Derulo
[Verse 1]
It’s too hard to sleep
I got the sheets on the floor, nothing on me
And I can’t take it no more, it’s a hundred degrees
I got one foot out the door, where are my keys?
Cause I gotta leave
In the back of the cab
I tipped the driver ‘head of time, get me there fast
I got your body on my mind, I want it bad
Oh just the thought of you gets me so high
So high
[Chorus] x2
Girl you’re the one I want to want me
And if you want me, girl you got me
There’s nothing I wouldn’t do (no I wouldn’t do)
Just to get up next to you
[Verse 2]
You open the door
Wearing nothing but a smile down to the floor
And you whisper in my ear, “Baby I’m yours”
Ooh just the thought of you gets me so high
So high
[Chorus] x2
[Bridge]
Just the thought of you
Gets me so high, so high
Just the thought of you
Gets me so high, so high
[Chorus] x2
Don’t reverse course on Derulo now! I really enjoyed joining I. Your general disdain for this guy!😄
I’m always amused to think I could have seen this guy perform at Universal a few years ago at Grad Bash, but, at the time, had no idea who he even was. Of course, now that I do I would walk even more quickly in the opposite direction! 🙂
