Song of the Day #2,339: ‘Love Me Harder’ – Ariana Grande

ariana_grande_love_me_harderSitting at #10 on this week’s Billboard Hot 100 is Ariana Grande, who has had about as good a year as anybody in the music world.

Having enjoyed her performance for years on Victorious, it’s nice to see her hit it big the way she has. That good will is tempered a bit by the reports of her outrageous diva behavior (such as being carried like a baby from her trailer to the recording studio, which is the latest rumor).

Whether or bit she’s a raging egotist, she’s undeniably talented both as an actress and a singer. The dim-witted Kat might be the only role she can play, but she plays it very well. And as a musical performer, she has great pipes and a good ear for material.

This song is silky smooth and sexy, even if she herself isn’t half as sexy as she’s trying to be.

[Verse 1: Ariana Grande]
Tell me something I need to know
Then take my breath and never let it go
If you just let me invade your space
I’ll take the pleasure, take it with the pain

[Pre-Chorus: Ariana Grande]
And if in the moment I bite my lip
Baby in that moment you’ll know this is
Something bigger than us and beyond bliss
Give me a reason to believe it

[Chorus 1: Ariana Grande]
Cause if you want to keep me
You gotta, gotta, gotta, gotta, got to love me harder
And if you really need me
You gotta, gotta, gotta, gotta, got to love me harder
Love me, love me, love me, harder, harder

[Verse 2: The Weeknd]
I know your motives and you know mine
The ones that love me I tend to leave behind
If you know about me and choose to stay
Then take this pleasure and take it with the pain

[Pre-Chorus: The Weeknd]
And if in the moment you bite your lip
When I get you moaning, you know it’s real
Can you feel the pressure between your hips?
I’ll make it feel like the first time

[Chorus 2: Ariana Grande (The Weeknd)]
Cause if you want to keep me
You gotta, gotta, gotta, gotta, got to love me harder
(I’mma love you harder)
And if you really need me
You gotta, gotta, gotta, gotta, got to love me harder
(Love me harder)
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh love me, love me, love me
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh harder, harder, harder, harder
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh love me, love me, love me
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh harder, harder, harder, harder

[Bridge: The Weeknd (Ariana Grande)]
So what do I do if I can’t figure it out?
(You got to try, try, try again, yeah)
So what do I do if I can’t figure it out?
(I’m gonna leave, leave, leave again)

[Chorus 3: Ariana Grande (The Weeknd)]
Cause if you want to keep me
You gotta, gotta, gotta, gotta, got to love me harder
(I’ll love, love, love)
And if you really need me
You gotta, gotta, gotta, gotta, got to love me harder
(Love to love me baby)
Cause if you want to keep me
You gotta, gotta, gotta, gotta, got to love me harder
(Love me harder)
And if you really need me
You gotta, gotta, gotta, gotta, got to love me harder
(I’mma do it, do it, do it, I’mma love you harder)

[Outro: Ariana Grande (The Weeknd)]
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh love me, love me, love me (love you)
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh harder, harder, harder, harder
Love me, love me, love me just a little bit harder

It’s so funny that, perhaps because you remember her as a child actress or because you have a daughter who is about the same age Ariana was when she was Kat, you don’t want to see Ariana as sexy. I could see you picking her up like a baby and dragging her out of some frat party as she protested saying, “I’m an adult! Put me down!”😄

In my defense (sort of), I fnd plenty of jailbait sexy! In fact, I think it’s more about how scrawny she has gotten. She was sexier as Kat, actually, with a little meat on her bones.

I truthfully dislike this song. Sure, it sounds nice as many pop songs do with bad meanings behind them, but it really doesn’t have any lyrical value. The entire song is about a girl telling a boy that she is going to get up and leave if he doesn’t “love her harder” which although is a nice ultimatum is a bit of a silly idea for a song. 😛
