Song of the Day #2,338: ‘Jealous’ – Nick Jonas

nick_jonas_jealousI have a vague recollection of the Jonas Brothers being a thing several years back, but I couldn’t tell you how many years back, or what sort of a thing they actually were.

Obviously they were one more incarnation of the boy band craze — another New Kids on the Block, Backstreet Boys or One Direction. But I couldn’t name a single song or controversy tied to them (there had to be a controversy, right? Isn’t there always?).

Anyway, Nick Jonas has the 9th song on Billboard Hot 100 this week with ‘Jealous.’ He turned up on The Voice to perform it, but was outshone by the entire top twelve.

The song is as forgettable as the Jonas Brothers themselves.

The video did teach me a new word: Grattitude, which means thanking somebody in an off-putting way.

[Verse 1]
I don’t like the way he’s looking at you
I’m starting to think you want him too
Am I crazy? Have I lost ya?
Even though I know you love me
Can’t help it

[Pre-Chorus]
I turn my chin music up
And I’m puffing my chest
I’m getting red in the face
You can call me obsessed
It’s not your fault that they hover
I mean no disrespect
It’s my right to be hellish
I still get jealous

[Chorus]
Cause you’re too sexy, beautiful
And everybody wants a taste
That’s why (that’s why)
I still get jealous
Cause you’re too sexy, beautiful
And everybody wants a taste
That’s why (that’s why)
I still get jealous

[Verse 2]
I wish you didn’t have to post it all
I wish you’d save a little bit just for me
Protective or possessive (yeah)
Call it passive or aggressive

[Pre-Chorus]

[Chorus]

[Bridge]
You’re the only one invited
I said there’s no one else for you
Cause you know I get excited (yeah)
When you get jealous too

[Pre-Chorus 2]
I turn my chin music up
And I’m puffing my chest
I’m getting red in the face
You can call me obsessed
It’s not your fault that they hover
I mean no disrespect
It’s my right to be hellish
I still get jealous

[Chorus]

mmm gotta fight you on this one. I have been very much digging the new Nick Jonas album. Plus this song is about Miss Universe (his current girlfriend), so I think it should earn some respect for that alone. I first heard this song in this video, so that also may have an influence on my positive feelings toward it 😛 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMb_cBv3iks

Perhaps your kids were a bit too young when the Jonus Brothers were all the rage. It was around the same time as Camp Rock was Disney’s juggernaut. My kids, however, were right in the zone on all that, so I became quite familiar with the Jo Bros.

There was one song, “Lovebug,” they did back in the day that I found rose above forgettable pop fare. Here it is:

I agree that this song is nothing special, though it’s a perfectly fine, if uninteresting, pop song.

I really like the tone of Nick Jonas’s voice. I was really quite surprised when I saw some of his live performances of this song at how good his voice actually was. I believe he was overshadowed by the other member of the Jonas Brothers, Joe Jonas. I really didn’t distinguish them at the time, but I now see the difference. Although I’m not as familiar with some of the other songs that Nick Jonas has recently made, I think that if they’re similar to this one I could if not like them, dance along to them. 🙂
