When I started my Rolling Stones deep dive in 2023, I figured I’d never have to revisit it. What were the odds that 80-year-olds Mick Jagger and Keith Richards would put out another album seven years after the career-capping Blue & Lonesome, on which they covered a selection of blues and R&B classics, just like they had on their debut 52 years earlier?
Before I’d even finished, the band announced a new album of original material, their first in nearly two decades. Hackney Diamonds didn’t come out in time for me to fit it in, but I’m remedying that now.
