Song of the Day #4,587: ‘Hard to Know’ – Mindy Smith

This is the third Mindy Smith track featured on the blog, all three on Random Weekends. Smith is a country rock artist who was born in Long Island and raised in Tennessee by a Protestant minister. The only album I own of hers, 2004’s One Moment More, is filled with allusions to her Christianity.

The song ‘Come to Jesus,’ her biggest hit, showed up on the blog seven years ago and led to a pretty good discussion about satire, with commenters Dana, Amy and Andrea all chiming in.

Song of the Day #2,571: ‘Hurricane’ – Mindy Smith

mindy_smith_one_moment_moreI don’t have much to say about today’s Random Weekend selection, which comes from one of those albums that found its way into my collection through mysterious means.

Mindy Smith’s debut album, One Moment More, was released in 2004. Since then she has put out four more albums, one as recently as 2012.

I don’t know who she is or why I own this album.

Song of the Day #1,898: ‘Come to Jesus’ – Mindy Smith

mindy_smith_one_moment_moreHere’s one of those cases — so often unearthed on Random Weekends — of an artist who wound up in my music collection under circumstances I have long since forgotten.

I don’t know who Mindy Smith is or why I own her debut album, One Moment More. I don’t know if I’ve heard any or all of it. I vaguely remember liking her cover of Dolly Parton’s ‘Jolene,’ the final track on this record, but I can’t imagine I bought the record as a result.
