I figured that after dozens of Beatles Weekends posts, I would have featured ‘She’s a Woman’ before now, but apparently not.
This early bit of R&B, penned and performed by Paul McCartney, was released as the B-side of ‘I Feel Fine’ and features a minimalist backing track under Paul’s yearning vocals.
Next week I’m going to launch the next installment of my “keeping up with what the kids are listening to” series, in which I feature songs currently topping Billboard’s Hot 100.
I suspect I might be jumping the gun by posting Ariana Grande’s ‘Problem’ today. I don’t know where it sits on that chart (and I won’t cheat and look now) but based on the growing buzz, I’m guessing it’s pretty high.

For their song ‘We Exist,’ about gay youth, the band filmed Andrew Garfield as he shaves his head, dons a wig, skirt and blouse and heads to a biker bar. Things don’t go well there, and he winds up fantasizing a dance sequence and eventually appearing onstage with Arcade Fire at Coachella.
Fans at that concert probably didn’t know they were watching Garfield when a disoriented woman wandered onstage mid-song.
It’s been about 10 months since I last featured a Tift Merritt song on the blog, so I figured she could use another plug.
It’s funny that I didn’t seriously consider any of Merritt’s individual songs for my desert island list, but if I were to make a list of desert island artists she would almost certainly make the cut.
I’ve been wanting to feature this song and video for several weeks now but I was caught up in the desert island picks.
I first discovered Sia’s ‘Chandelier’ through one of those annoying click-book Facebook posts by Huffington Post, Vulture or Slate: “You’ll be amazed by this new video by Sia!”
I hate falling for those things, but the truth is they’re often worthwhile. This one was.
