I picked up Lorde’s sophomore album, Melodrama, a week or so back and I’m loving it. No slump here; this is an even more confident and cohesive work than Pure Heroine.

Round Two of Montauk Madness comes to a close with a painful matchup for me, personally: The Beatles vs. Ben Folds.
The Beatles got here by unanimously toppling poor Shakira, while Folds bested The Smiths with a sizable 86% of the vote. Both of these acts have strong support among my readership. Continue reading
I never listen to Sade, but hearing today’s random SOTD makes me think I should have her on in the background every night while unwinding after work. She has such a lovely, soothing voice.
Perusing Sade’s Wikipedia page, I’m surprised to see how successful she was right up through her last album (to date), 2010’s Soldier of Love. She (or the band that bears her name) has sold more than 50 million albums worldwide, and every one of her releases has gone platinum or multi-platinum. Continue reading
Back in 2010, I blogged about nearly a year’s worth of Bob Dylan Weekends, moving chrononologically through each of the legend’s albums.
The exercise gave me the opportunity to buy several records I’d never heard, including one that became a new favorite, 1978’s Street Legal. Today’s random SOTD is the penultimate track on that short but sweet album.
