As I suggested last week, I’ve been woefully behind in my blogging lately. Posting my newest SOTD 15 minutes before midnight is not viable.
So to buy myself a little breathing room, I’m dedicating this week to the work of Jess Greenberg, presented without further comment.
Let’s give this talented young woman the recognition she so richly deserves.
This blog often finds new ways to make me feel old.
I remember buying Joan Osborne’s debut album, Relish, when it came out and loving its slow-jam dirty folk music vibe. Songs such as ‘St. Teresa’ and ‘Pensacola’ are among my favorites of the 90s.
Then it pops up as a Random Weekend selection today and I realize that this album came out 20 years ago. 20 years!
Of all the great albums in my music collection, Randy Newman’s 12 Songs is one of the most unassuming.
The album has no grand vision. It is simply, as the title suggests, a collection of 12 songs. The instrumentation is pretty bare-bones. Several of these songs had been recorded previously by other artists (today’s SOTD, for example, was released as a Fats Domino track before Newman offered up his own version).
Yesterday, frequent commenter Dana joked that I could feature topless women singing Bob Dylan songs. Well, this is probably as close as you’re gonna get on YouTube.
Jess Greenberg is a very talented guitarist and vocalist who has opted to call attention to her music by putting her ample bosom on display. It seems to have worked, as all of her clips are at or above the 1 million view mark.
I’m lagging behind on my posts this week. The past few days I’ve found myself writing the entries an hour before midnight, just getting them in under the wire.
So to buy myself some time, I’m resorting to an old standby… attractive women covering Bob Dylan songs. This is the gift that YouTube keeps giving.
