Song of the Day #2,894: ‘Work From Home’ – Fifth Harmony

fifth_harmony_work_from_homeIn the Hot 100’s #4 spot are the ladies of Fifth Harmony, whose last hit (‘Worth It’) made it to #12 on this list. Their latest effort, ‘Work From Home,’ has been climbing. Could it reach the top spot?

Based on the title, I figured this might be a track about the trend toward telecommuting, particularly popular among Millennials who are interested in work-life balance. But no, it’s about sex.

Song of the Day #2,893: ‘Can’t Stop the Feeling!’ – Justin Timberlake

timberlake_cant_stop_feelingJustin Timberlake returns to the Billboard charts with ‘Can’t Stop the Feeling!,’ currently sitting in the third spot on the Hot 100 (though it previously occupied the top spot).

This is Timberlake’s first song on the charts (or period, I believe) since early 2014. It was written for the Timberlake-produced animated film Trolls, in which he also appears as a voice actor.

Song of the Day #2,892: ‘Panda’ – Desiigner

desiigner_pandaIn Billboard’s #2 spot this week is ‘Panda’ by Desiigner, another case where at first I wasn’t sure which was the song title and which was the artist’s name.

According to Wikipedia, Desiigner is the moniker of Sidney Royel Selby III, who first started rapping under the name Designer Royel before his sister “convinced him to drop the middle name and add the extra I.” That must have been an interesting conversation.

Song of the Day #2,891: ‘One Dance’ – Drake Featuring WizKid & Kyla

drake_one_danceIt’s that time again. For the first time since March, I will take a look at the songs topping Billboard’s Hot 100.

Nine of the current top ten songs are new to the blog. These are the early contenders for Song of the Summer status, though — like a Hillary Clinton superdelegate — my vote has already been committed to DNCE’s ‘Cake By the Ocean.’ We’ll see if any of these songs change my mind.
