Song of the Day #3,014: ‘Ride’ – twenty one pilots

twenty_one_pilots_rideTwenty one pilots have their second top ten song of the week with ‘Ride,’ sitting at #9. According to Wikipedia, this makes them the first alternative artist to have two songs in Billboard’s top ten at the same time. I wonder how they define alternative?

‘Ride’ is my favorite of the three twenty one pilots songs I’ve featured on the blog to date (the other two being ‘Stressed Out‘ and ‘Heathens‘).

Song of the Day #3,013: ‘Treat You Better’ – Shawn Mendes

shawn_mendes_treat_you_betterI’ve already featured Billboard’s #7 track, Calvin Harris and Rihanna’s ‘This is What You Came For‘ (which Taylor Swift apparently co-wrote under a pseudonym), so I’m jumping ahead to #8.

Shawn Mendes has had a big year. The Canadian singer-songwriter turned 18 this summer and just released his second full-length album, titled Illuminate. Its first single, ‘Treat You Better,’ is climbing the charts. And here he has his second Meet Me In Montauk Song of the Day. Lucky kid.

Song of the Day #3,012: ‘Dirty Diana’ – Michael Jackson

michael_jackson_badI never found Michael Jackson’s Bad phase convincing, and I can’t imagine anybody else did either. Just the sight of the slight, pretty Jackson in leather-and-chains garb makes me chuckle.

Song of the Day #3,011: ‘I Wish I Was the Moon’ – Neko Case

nekocase2Pretty much any Neko Case song transports me to the same imaginary headspace. I picture a quiet autumn night in the woods at dusk, perfect temperature, fireflies blinking on and off, a harvest moon rising.

‘I Wish I Was the Moon,’ from the 2002 album Blacklisted, definitely has that effect on me. It’s exquisitely produced and, as always, beautifully sung. The kind of song you want to get lost in.

Song of the Day #3,010: ‘Let Me Love You’ – DJ Snake feat. Justin Bieber

dj_snake_let_me_love_youBillboard’s fifth spot features the first song I’ve already featured, The Chainsmoker’s ‘Don’t Let Me Down.’ Good song… even better than the one they put on the top of the charts this week.

So jumping to #6, we have our second appearance by Justin Bieber, who makes quite a living being featured on other people’s songs. This time it’s DJ Snake, known (to me, at least) for ‘Lean On‘ and ‘Turn Down for What.’
