Song of the Day #2,273: ‘Magic Marker’ – Monsters of Folk

monstersoffolkIt’s been five years since the “supergroup” Monsters of Folk released their self-titled debut album. I don’t know if Conor Oberst, Mike Mogis, Jim James and M. Ward have plans to ever record together again but I sure hope so.

I fall in love with this album all over again every time I hear it. The blend of voices and perspectives is spot-on, elevating the material above most of what I’ve heard from these guys doing their day jobs.

Song of the Day #2,272: ‘Hard Staying Sober’ – Miranda Lambert

miranda_lambert_platinumIn a cute, and probably predictable, turn of events, my 8-year-old daughter Fiona has become a bigger Miranda Lambert fan than I am.

Song of the Day #2,270: ‘Flawless (Remix)’ – Beyoncé feat. Nicki Minaj

beyonce_minajBeyoncé’s surprise self-titled album came out nearly a year ago, but it’s the gift that keeps on giving.

This week, Queen Bey released a video of her Paris performance of album track ‘Flawless’ with rapper Nicki Minaj.

The remix itself was released in August, but given that every song on the album has an accompanying video, it’s only fitting that this one should, too.

Song of the Day #2,269: ‘Blood’ – Archis

dia_frampton_archisAfter taking a few seasons off, my family has started watching The Voice again this year.

We watched the first two seasons with the original coaching lineup, but missed the Shakira/Usher years as well as the reunion with Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green.

This year, Gwen Stefani and Pharrell round out (or square off) the cast, with veterans — and future buddy film stars — Blake Shelton and Adam Levine returning as usual.
