Throwing back to the week of Oct. 11, 1986, we find Janet Jackson atop the Billboard Hot 100 with ‘When I Think of You,’ the third single from her blockbuster album Control.

This dance-pop song gave Jackson her very first #1 hit (of an eventual ten). It also made her and brother Michael the first (and to date, last) siblings to have #1 hits as solo artists. Plenty of siblings have topped the charts together (including The Bee Gees, The Jackson 5, The Jonas Brothers, Dire Straits, The Beach Boys, and Hanson) but only these two apart.

That got me wondering who the next sibling pair might be to achieve matching #1 hits.

Beyoncé, Miley Cyrus, and Billie Eilish have all reached #1, so siblings Solange, Noah Cyrus, and FINNEAS might be able to complete the set. So far, Solange’s peak is #27, Cyrus’ is #46, and FINNEAS has yet to place a song on the Hot 100, so they have their work cut out for them.

Another intriguing possibility is Malcolm Todd and Audrey Hobert. Todd’s ‘Earrings’ is on the chart now, having peaked at #19, while Hobert’s ‘Sue Me’ has peaked (so far) at #57. But both of these artists feel like they’re poised for a breakthrough. I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re the first sibling pair to join the Jacksons with matching #1 hits.

Old songs. Great memories.
