Now here’s the moment from Mitchell’s appearance that was worth the price of admission all by itself. Mitchell tackles ‘Both Sides Now,’ one of her greatest songs, in a beautiful, moving performance that makes wonderful use of the lower register she has developed after a lot of cigarettes and a lot of time.

Song of the Day #5,150: ‘Big Yellow Taxi (Live)’ – Joni Mitchell
Every musician onstage got a change to contribute to the next clip, ‘Big Yellow Taxi,’ and the audience was encouraged to sing along as well.
Mitchell still managed to be heard among the crowd, however, and worked in some nifty dance moves for a woman who wasn’t able to walk or talk not too long ago.
Song of the Day #5,149: ‘A Case of You (Live)’ – Joni Mitchell
Here’s another song from Mitchell’s greatest album, Blue, performed in a lovely trio with Brandi Carlile and Marcus Mumford. Carlile, a brilliant and powerful vocalist, can’t help but overpower Mitchell here, but the legendary songwriter tackles a few stanzas on her own and sounds great.
Song of the Day #5,148: ‘Carey (Live)’ – Joni Mitchell
The set took place at the Newport Folk Festival, where Mitchell last appeared way back in 1969, and featured Mitchell’s friend and collaborator Brandi Carlile along with a host of other musicians.
Song of the Day #5,147: ‘Walk On’ – U2
‘Walk On’ is the fourth single from U2’s 2000 hit album All That You Can’t Leave Behind. The track won Record of the Year at the 2002 Grammys, marking the first time an artist won the award in back-to-back years for songs from the same album (‘Beautiful Day’ was the 2001 Record of the Year).
‘Walk On’ was written for and dedicated to Burmese democracy activist Aung San Suu Kyi, who at the time was in the middle of a two-decade house arrest for promoting democracy in Burma.
