Song of the Day #6,514: ‘So Easy (To Fall in Love)’ – Olivia Dean

Continuing my look at the Billboard Hot 100, I’m skipping over Alex Warren’s ‘Ordinary,’ which has been on the Hot 100 for 61 weeks and still sits at #5. I first wrote about this song nearly a year ago when it was at #3. Who knew it would still be crushing it a year later?

At #6 is our second repeat artist in the top ten. Ella Langley might be having a great week, but Olivia Dean is right there with her with two songs in the top six. This one is ‘So Easy (To Fall in Love),’ a laid back bossa nova bauble.

This song was released way back in September of 2025 and has steadily climbed the chart on the way to its peak this week. ‘Man I Need’ and this song were the third and fourth singles from Dean’s album The Art of Loving.

I like Dean’s sound but not enough to dig any deeper. The word that comes to mind when I hear her songs is “inoffensive.” It’s a perfect background soundtrack for a Pottery Barn (and I don’t mean that as an insult, I swear).

[Verse 1]
I could be the twist, the one to make you stop
The icing on your cake, the cherry on the top
There’s Heaven in my heart, and we could find you some space, mm
I could be the world to you, the missing piece
The extra sentimental kind of chemistry
Some people make it hard, with me, that isn’t the case

[Chorus]
‘Cause I make it so easy to fall in love
So, come give me a call, and we’ll fall into us
I’m the perfect mix of Saturday night and the rest of your life
Anyone with a heart would agree
It’s so easy
To fall in love with

[Verse 2]
The way I do my hair, the way I make you laugh
The way we like to share a walk in Central Park
I could be fresh air, might be the girl of your dreams (Dreams, dreams, dreams)
There’s no need to hide if you’re into me
‘Cause I’m into you quite intimately
And maybe one night could turn into three
Well, I’m down to see

[Chorus]
‘Cause I make it so easy to fall in love
So, come give me a call, and we’ll fall into us
I’m the perfect mix of Saturday night and the rest of your life
Anyone with a heart would agree
It’s so easy
To fall in love with me

[Bridge]
(Me, me)
Me (Me, me)
Me (Me, me)
Me (Me, me)
It’s so easy (Me, me)
It’s so easy (Me, me)
It’s so easy (Me, me)
Yeah (Me, me)

[Chorus]
So easy to fall in love
So, come give me a call, and we’ll fall into us
I’m the perfect mix of Saturday night and the rest of your life
Anyone with a heart would agree
It’s so easy
To fall in love with me

I really love her sound, and, whether you meant to be insulting or not, she deserves more attention than to be relegated to background music at a Pottery Barn!

  2. Peg says:

pottery barn? Don’t think so I like this song and her voice

  3. Clay says:

You want to hear nice music in a Pottery Barn!

I don’t take your Pottery Barn placement of Olivia Dean’s music as an insult. I feel like in many ways her “inoffensive” quality is one of the things that draws so many people into her. I could see that being the word used to describe your feelings for her especially if you don’t particularly lean towards her genre of soul, jazzy influences.

I feel like where you hear “inoffensive” I hear mellifluous. I love her sweet tones of voice and she’s modernized the jazz standard in a way I find more than inoffensive but flat out interesting. There’s something about the classic form of love she’s singing about hear that lends itself to a more jazzy crooner type arrangement, but the way she’s brought it into today’s music landscape with some more modern day signatures like the “beat drop” in the final chorus.

I find this song and the rest of her album to be chock full of intriguing arrangements and heartfelt lyrics that I’d be happy to hear in a Pottery Barn or driving around on a particularly pleasant day!
