Here’s a track from the four-song 2004 self-titled EP by The Bens, a “supergroup” made up of Ben Folds, Ben Kweller, and Ben Lee.
Followers of this blog will likely guess correctly that I bought this little oddity due to the presence of Folds, one of my favorite artists. I was not at all familiar with Kweller or Lee, nor have I become so since.
Today’s track is sung (and I would guess written) by one of the non-Folds Bens. It’s fine for what it is, but nothing I felt compelled to hear again.
The same goes for two of the EP’s other tracks. The one winner is ‘Bruised,’ which is clearly a Ben Folds tune and one he could have easily slotted on one of his solo albums.
You can’t run, but you can’t hide, lose yourself
Baby, it’s your time
Tell your momma that you’re fine, lose yourself
Fall back on the party line, lose yourself
Honey, let’s go blind
And please don’t listen to a word that I say
Just stop!
There’s a world inside a world that’s not okay
Oh, just stop!
And go, when you’re faster than ever
I want to see you now
And you want to feel me because it’s like
I-i-ice
Don’t you know I’m leaving soon and I’ll lose myself
I don’t know if I’ll be alright when I lose myself
Oh, baby, we’ll be fine
And please don’t listen to a word that I say
Oh, just stop!
There’s a world inside a world that’s not okay
Come on, baby, just stop!
And you feel so unreal and it’s not true
And you know what you’re going to do
Yeah, you don’t know what you’re gonna see
When the monsters come out like me
Like me, oh, baby, you are so bright
You’re so bright when you stop!
If every Ben was special, no Ben would be.😀
