My final song selection from Sophia is another of the Gen Z women she follows. Maude Latour is a 20-year-old Columbia student who was born in Sweden and raised in London before moving to New York before high school.
Latour’s parents are both political journalists and she is very politically active herself, saying she hopes to be the first president to perform music at her own inauguration.
Currently, she is balancing her Ivy League college classes with live shows and the production of low-budget music videos (mostly shot in and around her campus dorm room with her friends as extras).
The eight songs Latour has available for streaming have a strong Lorde vibe, which makes sense because Lorde is one of Sophia’s favorite artists. Today’s track — her newest release — reminds me a bit of Liz Phair.
Hope you enjoyed the glimpse into my daughters’ playlists. I’m encouraged both by their taste and by the preponderance of talented new artists out there ready to make a mark.
I’m probably gonna get hurt this weekend
‘Cause you and I ended
And you like new beginnings too much
I mentioned that I hope we stay friends
But I regret what I said
‘Cause I heard what you told Emma
And damn, I really hate your guts
I hate all your friends
And I miss you so much
But I blocked all your texts
Wow, this party sucks
So I’ll run and get my coat
And then you walk through the door
Who invited you babe?
‘Cause I can’t see you anymore
[Chorus]
Oh no, I’m melting through the furniture
Did someone turn the temperature up?
‘Cause I’m slipping through the cracks in the floorboards
To the apartment below us, yeah
Oh no, I’m melting through the furniture
Did someone turn the temperature up?
‘Cause I’m slipping through the cracks in the floorboards
To the apartment below us
[Verse 2]
I wish that we were more like the movie
I cry on my birthday
But, you would make it up to me
All my friends feel like they’re strangers
I don’t wanna be famous
But, I wanna sing until I drown
‘Cause when the music is loud
When I’m in front of a crowd
And I’m talking to the God
And I can tell that you’re proud
I guess that nothing’s forever
I know that now
But, I still sink to the ground
[Chorus]
Oh no, I’m melting through the furniture
Did someone turn the temperature up?
‘Cause I’m slipping through the cracks in the floorboards
To the apartment below us
Oh no, I’m melting through the furniture
Did someone turn the temperature up?
‘Cause I’m slipping through the cracks in the floorboards
To the apartment below us
[Outro]
(Apartment below us) Oh no
(Apartment below us) I’m melting through the furniture
(Apartment below us) Did someone turn the temperature up?
(Apartment below us) ‘Cause I’m slipping through the cracks in the floorboards
To the apartment below us
Without a Constitutional amendment to eliminate the natural born citizen requirement, she won’t be able to be our first singer/songwriter president. 😜
Thank you for sharing Sophia’s playlist. She has good taste. The Apple has not fallen far from the tree.
I enjoyed getting to hear Sophia’s favorite songs. Thanks for sharing ❤️
