Song of the Day #4,170: ‘Golden Hour’ – Kacey Musgraves

Best Albums of the 2010s – #18
Golden Hour – Kacey Musgraves (2018)

It has been an excellent decade for women in country music, even if country radio continues to stubbornly ignore their music. Five of my top 20 albums are by women who are either country (or at least country-adjacent) artists.

One of the most critically-acclaimed of those records is Kacey Musgraves’ Golden Hour, the Texan singer-songwriter’s third and best album.

Released the year she turned 30, Golden Hour is a blissful and gorgeous celebration of life and love. It’s a “stop and smell the roses” album delivered with Musgraves’ distinct Millennial flair.

Golden Hour showed up on countless year-end best-of lists in 2018 and won the Album of the Year Grammy, joining Dixie Chicks and Taylor Swift as the only country artists to nab the top prize in this millennium (proving once again that all of the excitement in that genre belongs to the ladies).

[Verse 1]
All that I know
Is you caught me at the right time
Keep me in your glow
‘Cause I’m having such a good time
With you

[Chorus]
Baby, don’t you know?
That you’re my golden hour
The color of my sky
You’ve set my world on fire
And I know, I know everything’s gonna be alright

[Verse 2]
I used to get sad
And lonely when the sun went down
But it’s different now
‘Cause I love the light that I’ve found
In you

[Chorus]
Baby, don’t you know?
That you’re my golden hour
The color of my sky
You’ve set my world on fire
And I know, I know everything’s gonna be alright

[Bridge]
You make the world look beautiful, ooh
I thought I’d seen it all before
But looking through your eyes
It looks like paradise

[Chorus]
You’ve set my world on fire, yeah
And I know, I know everything’s gonna be alright
You’re my golden hour
The color of my sky
You’ve set my world on fire
And I know, I know everything’s gonna be alright
Yeah, I know, I know everything’s gonna be alright
Golden hour

Though still not a country music fan, to paraphrase our former President, this is likable enough.😀

I love this album and it was my first real introduction to Kacey Musgraves. I’m looking forward to seeing what she does next. 🙂 go country women!

I love this album! Definitely one of the most serene and sweet albums that I’ve heard in my life. It feels like you’re walking through a rose garden as you hear Musgraves beautiful clear voice surrounding by lush instrumentation. I also developed a whole new level of fondness for her when I watched her performance with Willie Nelson of “Rainbow Connection”. I highly recommend. Definitely a great choice for this top 20 list if it shouldn’t be a little higher!

Also, the bridge of this particular song would also make its way onto my top 10 favorite bridges of all time!
