‘Three’ turned out to be a more difficult find than I expected when compiling my list of 31 Numbered Songs.
After quite a bit of searching, I narrowed it down to a 6-minute emo dirge by “post-rock” band Athletics and a 2009 Britney Spears electropop track about the joy of threesomes.
Call me crazy, but I’m going with the dirge.
This track comes from a 2012 album titled Who You Are Is Not Enough, essentially a single 30-minute song broken into five parts titled with the Roman numerals I through V.
While ambient rock is not my thing, this is actually a pretty solid song. Better than Britney, at least.
It hurts less over time, but I’m not getting stronger
I just leave pieces behind
I can only fall so many times before I’m broke, unrecognizable
Now all I’ve left to give is the piece that still remains
And you bring the pieces back. Love, it only reconstructs the pain
As time fails to elapse, I’m finding you were everything to me
Now my future and my past are ending tragically the same
While it’s nice to be exposed to new music, you didn’t need to search quite as hard. Two “3” songs popped immediately into my mind: Costello’s “My Three Sons” and The Indigo Girls “Three Hits.” So, for your further listening pleasure, let’s make it a three-peat.
Two very good songs, but my challenge is more difficult than that. I will feature songs titled ONLY with the numbers 1-31. No other words allowed.
Oh, got it.
You are making this too hard on yourself 😉
Why are you dissing Britney like this???
