Song of the Day #3,442: ‘Something’ – The Beatles

With me as their father, it’s impossible for my girls to have escaped The Beatles during their formative years. I sang both of them to bed with ‘Blackbird’ and ‘In My Life,’ regaled them with the A Hard Day’s Night soundtrack, and just this year took them to the Las Vegas Cirque du Soleil performance of LOVE.

But Fiona expanded her Beatles education on her own through theme episodes of Glee, which she has streamed extensively on Netflix.

That’s how she discovered the George Harrison-penned classic ‘Something,’ which is performed by Sam (Chord Overstreet) in the Season Five episode ‘Tina in the Sky with Diamonds,’ the second in a two-part Beatles tribute.

Through Sam she got to Abbey Road (or “the one where they’re walking across the street on the cover”) and now that album has entered her rotation.

[Verse 1]
Something in the way she moves
Attracts me like no other lover
Something in the way she woos me
I don’t want to leave her now
You know I believe and how

[Verse 2]
Somewhere in her smile she knows
That I don’t need no other lover
Something in her style that shows me
I don’t want to leave her now
You know I believe and how

[Bridge]
You’re asking me will my love grow
I don’t know, I don’t know
You stick around and it may show
I don’t know, I don’t know

[Solo]

[Verse 3]
Something in the way she knows
And all I have to do is think of her
Something in the things she shows me
I don’t want to leave her now
You know I believe and how

  1. Dana Gallup says:

We exposed bth our kids to the Beatles with somewhat different results. For a time, Maddie was very into the Fab Four and had a wall in her room dedicated to them. Daniel, on the other hand, appreciates the Beatles more than he loves them. I think in more recent years, though, even Daniel is starting to come around.

Truly one of my favorite songs by the Beatles or any one else (read Sinatra) 😊

Good for Fiona. One would be hard pressed to find a better album to add to their rotation. The second side of this LP (do kids these days know about ‘sides’?) is an absolute classic…untouchable.
