Song of the Day #3,192: ‘I Feel It Coming’ – The Weeknd feat. Daft Punk

Rounding out my first week of ‘What the Kids are Listening To’ is The Weeknd with ‘I Feel It Coming,’ the second single from his album Starboy.

Like the title track, ‘I Feel It Coming’ is a collaboration with Daft Punk, who lend the same techno disco production and mechanized vocals they brought to ‘Get Lucky’ to this song.

Particularly in the verses, this sounds like a lost Michael Jackson song, which is a high compliment. My daughter loves this album. I’ll have to steal it from her, and in doing so render it completely uncool in her eyes.

[Intro: The Weeknd]
Yeah, uh

[Verse 1: The Weeknd]
Tell me what you really like
Baby, I can take my time
We don’t ever have to fight
Just take it step-by-step
I can see it in your eyes
‘Cause they never tell me lies
I can feel that body shake
And the heat between your legs

[Pre-Hook: The Weeknd]
You’ve been scared of love and what it did to you
You don’t have to run, I know what you’ve been through
Just a simple touch and it can set you free
We don’t have to rush when you’re alone with me

[Hook: The Weeknd]
I feel it coming, I feel it coming, babe
I feel it coming, I feel it coming, babe
I feel it coming, I feel it coming, babe
I feel it coming, I feel it coming, babe

[Verse 2: The Weeknd]
You are not the single type
So baby, this the perfect time
I’m just tryna get you high (I’m just tryna, babe)
And faded off this touch
You don’t need a lonely night
So baby, I can make it right
You just got to let me try
To give you what you want

[Pre-Hook: The Weeknd]
You’ve been scared of love and what it did to you
You don’t have to run, I know what you’ve been through
Just a simple touch and it can set you free
We don’t have to rush when you’re alone with me

[Hook: The Weeknd + Daft Punk]
I feel it coming, I feel it coming, babe
I feel it coming, I feel it coming, babe
I feel it coming, I feel it coming, babe
I feel it coming, I feel it coming, babe
I feel it coming, I feel it coming, babe
I feel it coming, I feel it coming, babe
I feel it coming, I feel it coming, babe
I feel it coming, I feel it coming, babe

[Pre-Hook: The Weeknd]
Hey!

I know what you feel right now
I feel it coming, I feel it coming, babe
I feel it coming, I feel it coming, babe
I feel it coming, I feel it coming, babe
I feel it coming, I feel it coming, babe
I know what you say right now, babe
I feel it coming, I feel it coming, babe
I feel it coming, I feel it coming, babe
I feel it coming, I feel it coming, babe
I feel it coming, I feel it coming, babe
I know what you say right now, babe
I feel it coming, I feel it coming, babe
I feel it coming, I feel it coming, babe
I feel it coming, I feel it coming, babe
I feel it coming, I feel it coming, babe

[Outro: Daft Punk]
I feel it coming, babe
I feel it coming, babe
I feel it coming, babe
I feel it coming, babe

Lol. Yes, this is a good album from an extremely talented guy.

This album is gold. The Weeknd (or Starboy? Idk) seamlessly crosses genres all with the recurring of theme of making bangers. This song is my favorite new song I’ve heard in a while. Though my mom likes to say it’s all about sex, I feel it’s about so much more than that and it’s about new beginnings. Even if it is just about sex it’s a beautiful way to depict it. The Weeknd is just a rockstar in his own right and all of his lyrics that carry double meanings as well. He is one of my favorite artist right now. If you’re exploring the album… Reminder (Amazing beat but I guess verging on misogynistic lyrics), Nothing Without You (I much prefer the acoustic H&M version, but the produced version is pretty good as well), and Secrets (This song stands on its own and the bridge and verses but borrowing from The Romanctics’ “Talking in your Sleep” in the chorus is genius) are amongst my favorites. I think you’ll find yourself quite a fan.
