Song of the Day #2,646: ‘School Announcements’ – Gabrielle Union & Jimmy Fallon

The fourth name on my freebie list is not Jimmy Fallon, but rather Gabrielle Union, his partner in the sketch that serves as today’s Song of the Day.

Union has been on my radar for 15 years, starting with her supporting turn in the beloved romantic comedy Bring it On.

Though Union plays a high school cheerleader in that film, she was 27 at the time (as was I), making my crush decidedly less creepy.

Bring It On has been in the pop culture conversation a lot in its anniversary year. It was also recently discovered by my 9-year-old daughter, so it’s been on repeat in my house for a couple of weeks now. No complaints here.

In the years since that film, Union has stayed busy in more than two dozen other features, though I haven’t seen most of them. And I haven’t watched Being Mary Jane, her current TV series, though it has received solid reviews. It’s about 47th on the list of quality TV shows with which I need to catch up.

I have, however, enjoyed her Instagram account, where she documents her life as an actress, wife (to the Miami Heat’s Dwyane Wade) and stepmother.

Today’s clip is from a recent episode of Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show, in which Union shows off her comic chops. The Rihanna bit is priceless.

Out of curiosity, is there anyone on your laminated list with light skin?

  2. Clay says:

I guess tomorrow’s is the lightest, relative to the rest. Currently there aren’t too many white women out there who grab me in the laminated list sort of way. That said, Emily Blunt and Scarlett Johansson were runners-up (as was Zoe Saldana).

  3. Peg says:

I was wondering the same thing 🙂 However, I would have thought Zoe Saldana would not have been a runner-up but rather on the main list
